I have to confess I personally have no green thumb, at all. I can kill a plant quicker than almost anyone around. I don't mean to, it just isn't something I'm very good at.

My late grandmother, on the other hand, had a green thumb, and I think her other fingers and toes were also green. She only had a front and back yard, and she crammed them so full of beautiful flowers, vegetables and fruit that her yard looked more like a jungle.

Her landscaping skills may not have been great, but she knew how to grow things. I still miss her.

With that in mind, I do like to read some gardening books, although more in the vein of sustainable livinging books than gardening, per se.

Therefore, my first suggestion, even before writing the full review is Second Nature: A Gardener's Education, by Michael Pollan. This book isn't so much a how to book on gardening as it is a philosophy of how to work with, not against, nature to produce the food we need to eat to live.

I know there are more practical books on gardening out there too, with great explanations of how to do various things around your garden, for both flowers and food. That is where you come in. Please nominate your favorite gardening books below, and explain why they would be of use to everyone.
